Iggy Pop on Canadian Television
Iggy has his game on here, in a 1977 confrontation with a Canadian talk show host whose first act is to apologize to the audience for the fact that due to some unimaginable cockup, the TV station had failed to secure Iggy's right to sing with his own band, and David Bowie, who had in fact all been there rehearsing earlier that day and were ready to rock. A signal victory for intellectual property rights, at some cost to Canadian viewers and world culture. Nevertheless, Iggy sinks to the occasion, and gives the host a raft of cordial shit that makes you feel cool all over. His response to the innocent question, “Tell me about punk rock ...” sends shivers of pleasure up my spine.
